A three-shirt series created by French artist Rafael Gray. These graffiti tag-style paintings were made from mixed media on large frames, then transferred to print exclusively for Kuldrop.
Rafael Gray has a background in pop art, rock, urban cultures, and post-avant-gardes. From graffiti and cinema to performances and installations, Gray has always avoided settling in a style or a school. He prefers freedom and movement.
To cope with the accumulation of colliding information, in a violent acceleration of exchanges on a global scale, Gray explores an atypical trajectory between paintings, films, and travel. From his street (urban arts) to the whole world beyond, he becomes a ‘pirate’. In his collages of different aesthetics, Rafael Gray claims the “reappropriation” or the use of the “sample”. This is a callback to the eternal beginning of things, like loops that are repeated, echoing the infinite reproducibility of images and sounds…
